Riding the waves at length of 183 metres, St Petri, a Hong Kong Flagged vessel, IMO No: 9354272, capable of carrying Chemical or Oil products in her 12 cargo tanks arrived into the shores of Singapore to load her cargo bound for the Far East. Singhai Marine Services Director, Ms. Wu Xiaoling along with her colleague, Daylen Tan went onboard the vessel together with Parakou Shipmanagement’s Crewing Manager, Capt. Gabriel and Superintendents, Capt. Khaing Thein and Mr. Teo Keong Choon to meet up with Capt. Yang and his men and check on the working conditions of the vessel. Ms. Wu specially arranged for some local delicacies, Bak Kwa and the spices required to cook the all-time favourite, Bak Kut Teh to be brought up to the crew.

We were treated to a nice dinner by the crew-proclaimed, Parakou’s Best Cook, and indeed we enjoyed ourselves and ate to our fill. Capt. Gabriel brought us for a tour around the vessel to various areas like the Crew Messroom, Engine Room and Navigation Bridge.

One major plus we realized was the very clean environment that the vessel was maintained to. Even though she is an 8 year old vessel, from the different observations, she looks like a youthful 2 years old vessel. Kudos to the crew for the meticulous maintenance and upkeep done to create a clean and safe environment for all.

Capt. Yang from Liaoning, China took special interest in assisting to teach the Chief Cook how to make new dishes which further boost the morale of the crew. As the saying goes, the way to make a man happy is through the stomach.

A chat with various crews reveals that all crew are very satisfied and happy to be working with Parakou Shipmanagement Pte Ltd, provisions are replenished on time and most importantly the wages are also given to them on time. Any requests for spare parts for the maintenance of the vessel are also quickly arranged and sent to the vessel without delay. They were especially delighted that Capt. Yang pass down new recipes to create new dishes with the Chief Cook to keep their appetite growing throughout the journey.

Singhai Marine Services will continue to work in tandem with Parakou Shipmanagement to create a conducive environment for all seafarers to be employed in.
